Appliqued Guitar T-Shirt

I made a lot of Alicia's clothes when she was younger, and I make things for Hannah, but I haven't had any experience sewing for little boys so I wasn't sure what I could make for Noah that would be "cool" for him to wear.

On Pinterest I found this pattern for a plush bass guitar and thought it would be perfect to use as an applique pattern instead, and it was already the exact size I needed it to be when I printed it out.

I purchased a gray Garanimals pocket tee from Wal-Mart for $3.88.

I removed the pocket since I didn't need it to be on the shirt.

I ironed black and white fabric onto Wonder Under Paper-Backed Fusible Web then drew the applique pieces onto the paper backing and cut them out.  I then ironed them onto the t-shirt, stitching around each layer as I placed it on the shirt.  I wanted it to fray on the edges so I used a straight stitch about 1/8" away from the applique edge.  After all the pieces were on I stitched the tuners and the strings.  At this point it still looked as if it needed a little something extra so I used a stretch stitch to write out ROCK ON! in graffiti style lettering.

I already had black and white fabric remnants and Wonder Under to use for the applique so the total cost for the project was under $5 since I had everything besides the t-shirt.

And here's my little model wearing his appliqued guitar shirt.

Noah looked so cute and "cool" in his new t-shirt.  He liked wearing a shirt his Nanny had made for him and he already has plans for other shirts I can make for him.  ~  Barbara

This is way cute! Do you have any idea how many shirts I've passed up b/c they have had pockets on them? Am I lacking common sense or what!? Thanks so much for sharing! Visiting via The Creative Spark

This is the coolest boy’s T-short I’ve seen in a while. I am pregnant with our second child - a boy, and I am already worried about the lack of nice things for boys. Will be making this, it is gorgeous!
